David Murphy
David Murphy came to Nevins as an experienced designer new to the furniture industry. The Michigan native brought his architecturally influenced background and contemporary design style to the commercial furniture industry in 2015. Nevins teamed up with David to create Thro Waste and Recycling units, Climb multi-tier seating collection, Cue Low Storage Collection and the Arlo Table Collection.
The Thro waste and recycling unit was designed with upscale and streamlined aesthetics to be more than an accessory piece in a room, but rather a statement piece which maintains functionality.
David designed Climb, a multi-tier seating collection, with the focus of allowing users to interact and create their own comfortable seating posture, whether they are working, meeting, or relaxing.
David collaborated with Nevins to develop the minimalistic Cue Storage Collection, which consists of mobile pedestals, low floor credenza, and low wall credenzas.
Lastly, David designed the Arlo table and describes his approach to the design: "The challenge was to design a solid wood table that appears too thin to be stable. To achieve this we used soft lines and tapering forms. In most cases solid wood tables are used in traditional settings and feature excessive ornamentation. Our goal was to minimize the amount material to what was structurally required, then let the material and its joinery be the focus. The outcome was a success."
